The mission of the Winston-Salem Youth Chorus is to engage and develop youth from diverse backgrounds and enrich their lives by inspiring excellence in choral music.
The Residential Chorus
The Residential Chorus is for boys and girls in grades 3-7, beginning and experienced singers. The RC does not tour, but they have several local performance opportunities throughout the year, on their own and with the other ensembles. The Residential Chorus rehearses on Mondays from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Although the musical challenges and expectations are high for this group, they will be less than those for the Touring Chorus and the performance schedule will not be as demanding for this ensemble.
The Touring Chorus
The Touring Chorus is for boys and girls in grades 4-8. The Touring Chorus rehearses twice weekly: Monday 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The Touring Chorus generally performs more than any other group in the WSYC, and the performance schedule can be demanding depending on the opportunities per year. Members are highly encouraged to participate in local, regional, and international concert tours as applicable, but are not required to do so.
The Young Women's Ensemble
The Young Women's Ensemble is for girls in grades 9-12. This group rehearses on Mondays from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. The Young Women's Ensemble performs independently and with the other WSYC ensembles, and they also participate in WSYC tours (not required for membership).
The Young Men's Ensemble
The Young Men's Ensemble is for boys with changed voices. They rehearse on Mondays from 7:45 pm - 9:00 pm. The YME performs alone and with other WSCC ensembles, as well as participates WSYC tours (not required for membership).
